What does “T-Tool-Up” in the acronym ADAPT mean and what does it stand for?
T-Tool up for change. This is the fun letter in the acronym. This is the point where the adaptable people and businesses will succeed and even thrive.
It is best explained in examples.
We have all been forced to socially isolate which means we don’t go out much. Which then means we need to arrange for delivery of food and products we used to get ourselves. The tool up here is multiple:
- Learning how to order things online.
- Building up capacity to deliver those items (couriers).
- Building up capacity to pay for those items (banking).
- Keeping things safe – new safety measures and the return of single-use items like plastic bags.
We have been forced to learn to meet in a virtual world. ZOOM meetings are a daily occurrence now. Many people did not know that ZOOM was even a thing a month ago. Entertainment and sports and things we used to do together in huge crowds are a thing of the past, but our passion will not die and somehow, things like the Olympics and the National sports leagues will reinvent themselves. Families that never saw each other are now together all day every day. The family game night has returned!
So, for business, what does this mean? Pay attention to where the new supply lines and trade lines will be. Will there be less or more international trade? Now that we know one country needs personal protective gear but another country has the wood pulp to make and yet a third country has the labor force of trained medical professionals to use it. Learn the new tools—Online banking. Online meetings. Remember to support each other. We have a lot to learn or rather re-learn.
